I completed my MFA at CCAD and had the pleasure of showing at ROY multiple times, including Image Ohio. It’s so important to have a place to show as an emerging artist, and I feel fortunate to have been selected for a solo show in 2014. It was an important milestone in my career as an artist and educator.

ROY is so prominent in Ohio and the Midwest, so it is a big deal to be selected and really beneficial for the artists. Particularly because it allows artists to focus on the content of the work without the market pressures of a commercial gallery. The openings are always well attended, and it gave me a sense of accomplishment and recognition.

Columbus has a footprint and prominence that local patrons may not realize. And, ROY has a reputation and scale that is unique. It provides an essential space for continuing to develop contemporary art. As I’ve grown in my work and advanced in my career in higher education, I’ve realized just how important ROY is for emerging artists who will continue to push contemporary art forward.

Bio:Jason Schwab was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and currently resides in St. Augustine, Florida. Schwab received his BFA in photography from Kutztown University in 2010 and his MFA from Columbus College of Art & Design in 2014. He is currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Visual Arts at Flagler College.

Schwab’s exhibition history includes national juried exhibitions, multiple solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, and fellowships. Most notable are, the Visual Arts Fellowship from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the subsequent exhibition at the Columbus Museum of Art, the Award for Innovations in Imaging from the Society for Photographic Education, Schwab’s two-person exhibition with Leslie Robison titled “What a Man, What a Man” at the Alexander Brest Gallery, his solo exhibition Remove/ Approve at ROYGBIV Gallery, and the inclusion in Manifest Gallery’s 4th International Photography Annual publication. Schwab has participated in the Vermont Studio Center artist residency and the Wassaic Artist Residency. Since 2016 Schwab had been on the Board of Directors for the Mid-America College Art Association, serving as President from 2022 – 2024. His most recent solo exhibition was "Speak Soft(er) and Carry a Big Stick" at alt_space Gallery, New Smyrna Beach, and he will be mounting a solo exhibition at the Hall Gallery at Millsaps College in August of 2027.
