Elise P. Church
ROY Alum, 2016
I submitted to a call for entry in 2015, and exhibited in 2016. Before being selected, I had completed one solo exhibit. To exhibit with ROY gave me new confidence and validated my work. It was truly a spring board for me.
ROY was in the old High Street space at that time, and I had one side of the two- space gallery for my exhibition. Ken, the gallery director, supported the experimental installation that I was seeking. I was able to present my work in a manner that fit the shaped paintings on paper. Now ten years later, I appreciate the uniqueness of that experience.
I have a great fondness for ROY G BIV. There are so few opportunities for artists, and there are too few galleries that provide such robust support of emerging artists.
Showing at ROY gave my career a boost and I hope the Gallery provides the same for more artists in the future.
