Attend a ROY Talks on September 7 at 2:30p and engage with the artists

Exhibiting Artists: Angela Smith, Jonah Jacobs, Emily Sullivan Smith, and Raven Halfmoon

Angela Smith presents “HER”, an ongoing photographic exploration of the female subject.

Jonah Jacobs offers artwork that recreates the grandeur and complexity of natural structures.

Emily Sullivan Smith explores the global debate concerning the planet and the role each of us play.

Raven Halfmoon’s work is reflective of her experience as a woman and her Caddo tribal heritage.

Pattern / Place

Join us on September 13th from 7-10 PM for Franklinton Fridays and be transformed

Attend a ROY Talks on September 14 at 2:30p and engage with the artists

Pattern / Place is a group exhibition featuring Midwest-based artists who investigate the use of pattern through traditionally domestic modes of creating. Often referred to as “Women’s Work”, this colloquial term ascribes specific craft processes to traditional female gender roles. The artists included in this exhibition utilize an array of artistic practices and media that speak to or make reference to these processes. Using sculpture, installation, performance/video, language, and drawing, these artists explore how pattern and repetition exist within these modes of work. Through this investigation the artists consider how these acts of repetition and accumulation of pattern begin to speak to notions of place.

Pattern / Place Curators: Marla Roddy (Registrar, Beeler Gallery / Gallery Associate, Brandt-Roberts Galleries) and Lance Pruitt (The Ohio State University MFA Candidate).

Exhibiting Artists: Allison Baker (Minneapolis, MN), Pati Beachley (Pittsburgh, PA), Cat Mailloux (Columbus, OH), Erica Mendoza (Knoxville, TN), and Jamie Lynn Williams (Indianapolis, IN).

Work is for sale and priced as marked. The price of the work includes ROY’s 35% commission which is invested back into the gallery supporting emerging artists.

Joshua Clark, Attitude Effacee $6000

Joshua Clark: Hollow Horns

In this body of work Clark is interested in phenomena that can be understood emotively, but rarely translated into spoke word quite correctly. Clark wants to explore the psychology in encountering both the familiar and strange. There is a gap between how the world is presented to us, and how we then perceive it. A reality that can only be approached, but never fully understood, and while no concrete meaning can be received, one can orbit close enough to come away with something meaningful.

Joshua Penrose: Light Paintings

The digital space is invisible, opaque, and subterranean. It exists through the aggregation of other, subsidiary digital objects such as files and data streams. Information, chunked and abstracted, is stored on a variety of magnetic media such as drives and servers.  They generally enter our experience visually, through symbols and images, mediated by screens within a frame.  These mediated symbols inside the frame are several steps removed from both their real and sensual objecthood.  The real digital objects remain phenomenologically invisible, withdrawn, hidden and opaque. Joshua received the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award this year.
