Who is Roy?  ROY is high stature - a high-quality space for serious artists, and I was happy to have gotten in there.  Artists need space like ROY.

I remember ROY as one of the best gallery experiences I have had.  I had help hanging the show, and I had lots of positive feedback from the gallery.  I remember that there was a good turnout for the opening.  Those are all the things that a young artist is looking for and could possibly hope for.

At that time, I was only applying to juried shows.  I’m an MFA and I wanted to establish myself with some repute and wanted to be selected by my peers to help my resume.  I was looking for galleries that were well placed in the city and that provided some reasonable opportunity for sales.  I was very excited to be selected for the ROY show.

If a city is going to create and grow its arts culture it must have spaces beyond an art museum.  There is real talent out there and these emerging artists need opportunities.  New York City is not the only place in the world that has talented artists.  Our Ohio regional artists have legitimate talent, and ROY gives them a chance.  If you want to see the cutting edge of contemporary art, then you need places like ROY G BIV.

Being selected for a juried show at ROY is a huge boost to an artists confidence.  I know because it was for me.

Mullenix's Paintings: A Look into Serene Wilderness

BIO:  Robert Mullenix currently lives and works in Oxford Ohio.  He received his MFA from University of Illinois in 1990.  His work continues to reflect his dual interests in painting and photography.  Robert has participated in over 130 juried solo and group exhibitions over the past four decades.  He has been recognized with multiple awards and citations, served on selection committees and as an exhibition judge and worked as an adjunct university instructor in art.  Robert still enjoys his art while recently returning to school and is now working as a therapist and licensed social worker.
