The Roy G Biv Gallery holds nostalgia and fondness in my heart.  In the 90’s, under artistic director, Daniel Work, I volunteered to open and gallery sit on weekends, welcoming visitors and answering any inquiries about art displays and the artists.  In September of ’99, I was invited to show in The Women’s Group Exhibition-painting, sculpture, and assemblage.  The show was spotlighted as “Kick Ass, Roy G Biv focuses on the feminine perspective” by Melissa Starker, in the Columbus Alive Art Scene.

Seeing that ROY is still active brings me great joy and happiness. Artists need a supportive space like Roy G Biv. The gallery is a gathering place for artists, collectors, and friends alike.

In 2019, I was invited to the reunion show.  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but wish I could have made it to the opening to see the work, and reconnect with fellow artists and friends.  Currently I’m in Colorado, and I create after the day’s work, at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.  I exhibit my work throughout Colorado including the Monarch ski resort and galleries throughout, also exhibiting in neighboring states.

I’m thankful to have had the experience of volunteering and exhibiting at the gallery.  Thank you for the opportunity,

BIO: Melissa Getz is an Ohio-born, Colorado-based mixed-media artist with a BFA from Ohio University. Working part time as an artist, she creates whimsical sculptures and paintings that blend organic forms with found objects. Through polymer clay, found materials, and sketches, she builds miniature, imaginative figure installations. Inspired by Colorado’s landscapes, public lands, and wildlife, her work has been shown across the state, including at the Boulder Public Library, The Blue Spruce Gallery, and Floco Gallery in Florence, Colorado.
