Fagan examines the residue of suburban culture through combining abstract textures with narrative fragments. Fagan’s mixed-media paintings build up traditional materials, like paint, found images and marker, with a variety on unconventional materials, including, dry wall, spackle and spray tan. Fagan combines these tactile surfaces with totemic forms and autobiographical references. Together, Fagan’s work creates fractured narratives that remain fluid, evoking recognition but not comfort.
Nick Fagan received his BFA in sculpture and extended media from Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at The Ohio State University. Recent exhibitions include Growing Pains at the Fine Arts Gallery, Richmond, and VCU Undergraduate Show at Anderson Gallery, Richmond.
