ROY G BIV Gallery for Emerging Artists is looking for submissions for ImageOHIO 20, a juried exhibition of the best photographic, new media art, film and video. In 2020, the submissions will be categorized as either photography/new media or film/video. Each category will have a separate juror whose work and experience in these mediums is extraordinary. In Celebration of our 20th year, film and video will be screened in the Shot Tower Gallery and in a special screening January 18 at ROY G BIV Gallery. The selected artists’ work will be exhibited from January 20 – February 21, 2020, at the Fort Hayes Shot Tower Gallery (546 Jack Gibbs Blvd., Columbus, OH, 43215)

Photographic / New Media Juror Darren Lee Miller

Darren Lee Miller is an artist, curator, and educator. He is Chair of Photography and Associate Professor at the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, OH. He recently received a Fulbright Award for his proposed relational aesthetics / collaborative community art project at the São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Bauru, Brazil in spring 2020.

His teaching, curatorial work, and artwork have been recognized through residencies at Blue Mountain Center, the Vermont Studio Center, the Crawford County Historical Society, the University of Puerto Rico, and in regional and national exhibitions.  His works have been acquired by Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake. Union College, Allegheny College, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, and private collectors.  He earned a B.F.A. from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and an M.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.

Film / Video Juror Mike Olenick

Mike Olenick makes perverse films focused on photography, forbidden desire, reproduction, transformation, and memories. His work has streamed on MUBI and as a Vimeo Staff Pick, played on Dutch TV, and won awards at the Slamdance Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, and Ann Arbor Film Festival, among others. Recently his films have screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and the Palm Springs International ShortFest. Mike is the recipient of several awards and fellowships from both the Ohio Arts Council and the Greater Columbus Arts Council. In 2016 he was awarded a fellowship at the inaugural Shudder Labs.

In addition to making his own films, Mike has worked as an editor on projects for Guy Maddin, Michael Robinson, Kelly Reichardt, Quay Brothers, Lucy Raven, and Sadie Benning. Since 2003 he has edited numerous works for Jennifer Reeder, including A Million Miles Away and Knives and Skin. Films he has edited have screened at numerous film festivals around the world including Sundance and Berlin. Works he has edited are included in the collections of MoMA and the Tate.

Mike earned his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art with an emphasis in Photography. For over 14 years he was an editor in the Film/Video Studio at the Wexner Center for the Arts. He currently oversees the Film/Video Studio’s archive and teaches in the Grad Studies program at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

1) Complete the submission form below and submit $25 entry fee through PayPal. (Entry fee is waived for ROY G BIV members.)

2) Along with your submission include an artist statement, résumé and list of works to info@roygbivgallery.org. Include the subject “ImageOHIO 2020”.

GUIDELINES

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS 

  • no more than 5 images

  • File names: Use only a number (e.g., 01.jpg). Please do not embed your name in any images.

  • File format: JPEG or PNG

  • File size: No larger than 1.5 MB per photo

  • Detail and installation photos may be included with the 5 images.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS

  • no more than 2 videos no longer than 20 minutes each

  • For video submissions, upload your videos to Vimeo or YouTube and submit their URLs in your List of Works.

  • It is not necessary to remove your name from your account or videos.

  • Please make videos accessible to the juror, include an access code if needed.

  • The first two minutes of each video will be reviewed.

RESUME, ARTIST'S STATEMENT AND LIST OF WORK

  • File names: Please include your name on your Resume, List of Works and Artist's Statement.

  • File formats: PDF or DOC

  • List of Works should include the following for each work:

  1. File name (e.g.,01.jpg) or video URL (e.g., https://www.youtube.com…)

  2. Title

  3. Year of completion

  4. Medium(s)

ELIGIBILITY AND FINE PRINT

ImageOHIO 20 is open to photography, video, new media artwork and film. Due to the exhibition’s location in a public school, artwork that contains explicit nudity or references to violence will not be considered.  

Artist is responsible for transportation of all artwork to and from the Shot Tower Gallery. If work must be shipped, artist is responsible for packaging and shipping expenses. Artist is responsible for specialty installation supplies, two-dimensional work must be ready to hang and provided with appropriate hanging hardware. Projectors and monitors are available on a first come basis, and are available in limited quantities. Artist may need to provide their own projector or monitor, as they are available on a very limited basis.
